Collecting

One part of the House of Electronic Arts Basel is committed to collecting digital art and hence, necessarily also to keeping up to date on conservation issues.

The House of Electronic Arts Basel is a contributing partner in the research project digital art conservation. Digital Media Art in the Upper Rhine Valley. Conservation – Restoration – Sustainability.

digital art conservation, initiated by the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, was born out of the wish to valorise the expertise that has been accrued in the Upper Rhine Valley in the field of digital art conservation over the past two decades. The three-year project, co-financed by Europan Union’s INTERREG IV Upper Rhine programme, aims to foster greater cooperation between the regional actors in the curating and conservation of digital art and to contribute to the theoretical discussion around the conservation of new media art at an international level.

Further participating partners are Conseil Général du Territoire de Belfort – Espace Multimedia Gantner, Ecole supériere des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg, Hochschule der Künste Bern, and Vidéo les Beaux Jours.

From January 18 to March 31, 2013, the House of Electronic Arts Basel will be presenting the exhibition Digital Art Works. The Challenges of Conservation, which shows ten case studies from the project.
